Plastic Bag Exports

Exports from the U.S.

In 2022, overseas shipments of plastic sacks and bags decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, plastic bag exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Canada (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and the Dominican Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic bag exports from the United States, with a combined X% share of total exports. Costa Rica, France and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
