Distilled Liquor Exports

Exports from the U.S.

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of distilled liquors, excluding brandy decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2013 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, distilled liquor exports contracted to $X in 2023. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Canada (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main destinations of distilled liquor exports from the United States, with a combined X% share of total exports. Australia, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, Brazil, Spain, South Korea, Germany, Ireland and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Canada ($X) and Mexico ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for distilled liquor exported from the United States worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. Australia, the UK, Japan, Spain, Germany, Brazil, France, Italy, South Korea and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Brazil, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average distilled liquor export price stood at $X per ton in 2023, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2022, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, distilled liquor imports shrank to $X in 2023. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2013 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2013 indices.
